Job Description:

A Shift Incharge for Transmission Tower Fabrication oversees and manages all aspects of the
fabrication operations during their assigned shift, ensuring production targets, quality standards,
and safety protocols are met. This role involves leadership, coordination, troubleshooting, and
reporting in a heavy manufacturing environment.
Job Title: Shift Incharge - Transmission Tower Fabrication
Job Summary: The Shift Incharge is responsible for the overall supervision, coordination, and
efficient operation of the transmission tower fabrication unit during their assigned shift. The primary
goal is to achieve production targets, maintain high-quality standards for fabricated tower parts,
ensure strict adherence to safety regulations, and manage the shift workforce effectively.

Key Responsibilities
Production and Operations Management
 Target Achievement: Coordinate and oversee all fabrication activities (e.g., cutting,
punching, drilling, welding, assembly) to ensure the shift's daily/weekly production targets
(in tonnage or number of members) are met or exceeded.
 Work Allocation: Assign tasks and duties to fabrication workers, machine operators, and
helpers based on production schedules and priorities.
 Process Flow: Monitor the fabrication process to ensure smooth material flow, minimize
bottlenecks, and optimize machine utilization.
 Troubleshooting: Quickly identify, analyze, and resolve operational issues, equipment
breakdowns, or production delays during the shift.
 Machine Management: Ensure proper functioning, basic maintenance, and cleanliness of all
fabrication machinery (e.g., CNC lines, presses, angle cutting machines, EOT cranes).
Coordinate with the Maintenance department for major repairs.
Quality and Technical Compliance
 Quality Control: Enforce company and industry-specific quality standards (e.g., IS, ASTM) for
all fabricated tower components.
 Inspection: Oversee in-process quality checks (e.g., dimensional accuracy, punching
alignment) to minimize rework and rejection.
 Drawing Interpretation: Ensure all fabrication work is executed strictly as per approved
engineering drawings, bill of materials (BOM), and specifications.
 Material Management: Monitor the consumption of raw materials (steel angles, plates) and
consumables, and coordinate with the stores/planning department to ensure availability and
prevent shortages.
Safety, Health, and Environment (EHS)
 Safety Enforcement: Champion a safety-first culture and strictly implement all safety
protocols, procedures, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) mandates.

 Hazard Identification: Conduct regular safety audits and workplace inspections to identify
and immediately correct unsafe conditions or acts.
 Incident Management: Respond as the on-site incident controller for any emergencies,
accidents, or near-misses, and ensure timely reporting and initial investigation.
 Compliance: Ensure compliance with all EHS and legal regulations relevant to the fabrication
industry.
Team Management and Leadership
 Supervision: Provide strong leadership, guidance, and supervision to the entire shift team.
 Training & Development: Conduct on-the-job training for new and existing workers on
standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety, and machine operations.
 Discipline: Handle minor disciplinary issues, resolve conflicts among team members, and
escalate complex personnel matters to HR/Management.
 Motivation: Motivate and coach the team to improve performance, productivity, and skill
levels.
Reporting and Coordination
 Shift Handover: Conduct detailed and effective handover with the incoming and outgoing
Shift Incharges, communicating all critical information, pending tasks, and issues.
 Reporting: Prepare accurate and detailed shift reports on production output, quality
metrics, downtime, manpower utilization, material consumption, and safety incidents.
 Cross-Functional Liaison: Coordinate effectively with other departments, including Quality
Control, Production Planning, Maintenance, and Stores, to streamline operations.

 

Desired Profile / Criteria / Skills :

Required Qualifications and Skills
Qualifications
 Education: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production
Engineering, or a related field.
fabrication or steel manufacturing environment, with specific experience in Transmission
Line Tower (TLT) fabrication preferred.
Technical and Functional Skills
 Fabrication Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of steel fabrication processes, including cutting,
punching, drilling, pressing, and basic welding.
 Reading Technical Drawings: Proficient in reading and interpreting complex engineering
drawings, plans, and specifications for lattice structures.
 Safety Standards: Strong knowledge of industrial safety procedures and practices,
particularly in fabrication/heavy machinery environments.
