Job Description Summary

Lead Engineer Accessories Instrumentation will leverage his or her engineering and leadership skills to develop design packages that relate to the upgrade or retrofit of gas or steam turbines and generator accessories. They will mainly focus on the design integration of electrical and instrumentation systems with control hardware for gas turbine, steam turbine, and generator accessory systems. They will work in collaboration with other lead engineers and technical leads to develop innovative designs that will aid in defining the E&I modifications required on different accessory systems such as lube oil, ventilation, hazardous gas, inlet and exhaust, etc. The individual is expected to execute projects of varying complexity both in ITO and OTR stages under the guidance of senior engineers and TLs within the team. They shall also provide necessary outage support and own ER and NCR cases originating from all post-COD units. This role requires strong engineering and technical skills and the resourcefulness to work with cross-functional teams situated around the world to execute large and complex projects with a sharp focus on on-time delivery and world-class quality.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Own and execute tasks from different workstreams, such as PLM OTR work, SDRs, ERs, NCRs, etc., that relate to services engineering.
  • Responsible for developing innovative engineering solutions for gas, steam, and generator accessory systems that meet all customer CTQs and design guidelines.
  • Develop detailed instrumentation schematics, wiring, and conduit arrangement drawings (BOM) to support proposed fluids or mechanical system upgrades or modifications anticipated on a project.
  • Deploy applicable national and international codes, standards, and directives such as IEC, NEC, CSA, IECEx, ATEX, etc.
  • Interpret the scope of the project and develop wiring/loop diagrams, instrumentation/load lists, and electrical schematic diagrams, deploying electrical design principles to improve the overall system performance.
  • Develop or strongly support standardisation and/or cost-out efforts to improve the competitiveness of  product and service offerings.
  • Provide support to address field issues, as required. 
  • Take an active role in the continuous improvement of processes, procedures, and deliverables.
  • Contribute to annual team priorities and initiatives.
  • Effectively interact with other customers and suppliers, as well as with internal cross functions such as sourcing, drafting, systems engineering, and project management.

Required Qualifications

  • BE/B. Tech. Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering or similar from an institute of repute.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the design of E&I systems related to industrial gas or steam turbines and generators.
  • Working knowledge of local and global electrical codes and standards, especially around installations of instrumentation in hazardous environments.
  • Willingness and ability to work on new E&I systems and develop expertise on both  and Alstom-built machines.
  • Effective time management and multitasking ability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

Desired Characteristics

  • Field experience on and Alstom Gas/Steam Turbines and Generators.
  • Ability to learn different Gas, Steam & Generator upgrade offerings.
  • Global mindset with a willingness to understand different cultures and work collaboratively.
  • Experience in cable pulling, instrument calibration, and knowledge of experience will be an added plus.
  • Strong technical aptitude, including knowledge of applicable engineering tools and systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • BB / Green Belt certification
