Job Summary:
The Motor Insurance Underwriter Manager will oversee the motor insurance underwriting process, ensuring the evaluation of risks is consistent with company policies and regulatory standards. This role involves managing a team, developing underwriting strategies, products and ensuring profitable growth of the motor insurance portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
Underwriting Management:
o Review and assess motor insurance applications, ensuring adherence to risk appetite and guidelines.
o Approve or decline policies, ensuring underwriting decisions are both financially sound and customer-centric.
Risk Assessment:
o Analyze and evaluate motor risks based on various factors (vehicle type, driver history, etc.).
o Develop and refine underwriting guidelines, policies, and tools.
o Ensure compliance with internal underwriting standards and local regulations.
Portfolio Management:
o Monitor and evaluate the performance of the motor insurance portfolio.
o Identify trends, recommend adjustments to pricing, and manage risk exposure to ensure profitability.
o Work closely with actuaries, product managers, and the claims department to improve underwriting outcomes.
Team Leadership:
o Mentor, coach, and train junior underwriters to ensure the development of technical skills and decision-making capabilities.
Business Development Support:
o Work collaboratively with sales, distribution, and marketing teams to support the development of motor insurance products.
o Provide input on market trends and competitor activities to develop competitive underwriting strategies.
Process Optimization:
o Drive process improvements in underwriting workflows, automation, and customer service response times.
o Implement best practices to enhance operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications:
o Bachelor s degree in Business, Insurance, Finance, or a related field. A Master s degree is a plus.
o Professional certifications in insurance are highly desirable.
Experience:
o Minimum 7-10 years of underwriting experience in motor insurance, with at least 3 years in a management or leadership role.
o Strong knowledge of motor insurance products, underwriting guidelines, and risk management principles.
Skills:
o Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
o Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office tools likes excel, PPT.
o Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
o Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and compliance standards in motor insurance.
